C2C LAUNCH EVENT AND CLINIC UNVEILING

Containers to Clinics (C2C) hosted the launch of the C2C prototype container clinic at the Institute of Contemporary Art on Boston's waterfront on the evening of November 16th! We are delighted to welcome you to this exciting event. The prototype clinic was on-site at the ICA for tours by C2C staff and consists of two 8'x20' industrial shipping containers, retrofitted and converted into a rural medical clinic with two patient consultation rooms, a diagnostic laboratory, and a patient pharmacy.

In addition to showcasing the clinic design and structure, C2C was honored to welcome Dr. Al Hammond as the keynote speaker. Dr. Hammond is a social entrepreneur, a leading researcher on the topics of international development and social innovation, and the founder of the Base of the Pyramid strategy for market-led social change. Dr. Hammond will address attendees on the topic of innovative healthcare solutions in the developing world.

Biography of Dr. Al Hammond

Al Hammond is senior entrepreneur in residence and a member of the Leadership Group at Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. He works with a team of social entrepreneurs advancing Ashoka's Full Economic Citizenship initiative by creating partnerships between private companies and citizen sector organizations to unleash competitive low- income markets on a global scale. Al focuses primarily on the health care and rural connectivity sectors.

Prior to joining Ashoka, Al was Vice President for Special Projects and Innovation at the World Resources Institute. At WRI, he directed the Institute's Development Through Enterprise project, which worked with foundations, development agencies, and a number of major corporations to further the use of pro-poor business strategies and digital technologies in development. Dr. Hammond has published extensively in the scientific, policy research, and business literature, including the following articles:

In 2007, he was lead co-author of the definitive study of the size and scope of BoP markets, "The Next 4 Billion: Market Size and Business Strategy at the Base of the Pyramid [PDF 10.9 MB]."

Dr. Hammond holds degrees from Stanford University and Harvard University in engineering and applied mathematics.
